Analogy to Olympics (last update to this study was made on 09/06/2004)

Before taking my two small children roller-skating earlier tonight (Friday), we all had watched the Olympic Synchronized Swimming event. What a joyful event to see! As I was watching the teams routine and beautiful synchronization, I could not help but consider the Spirit and how we all shall come into the Unity of the faith and shall be in complete accord with one another, not breaking His rank or file. We shall be in such harmony and with such grace, flexibility, strength and endurance as displayed by these teams in the Olympics. (note: the Russians scored the gold, Japan the silver and U.S.A the bronze). They do it for a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown (and I am sure all who read this know by now that is not an actual physical crown).

The Olympic games present the world’s greatest athletics as they gather under the Olympic banner to represent their country in dignity and integrity (or at least they should....) This banner of five interlocking rings is to signify UNITY among the nations of Asia, Africa, Europe, Australia and the Americas. They all prepare under the highest standards and sacrifice much to be in Athens. We too are learning to come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God unto maturity and the fullness of Christ. We too are to count the cost as many are called, but few are chosen. No greater love has a man than this that he lay down his life for another. We have a great calling and responsibility and are to serve in the same Spirit in which it is given. We are in a school of training and should be encouraged to not grow faint but rather endure to the end.

How beautiful we are becoming as we continue to learn to walk in the things of the Lord and in harmony with His Spirit and Will. I know when I find myself doing as He bids; it automatically brings such grace, strength, flexibility and endurance in my own spirit. For he that rules his own spirit is greater than he that taketh a city.
